HalloweenSince it is Halloween I wanted to review one of my most favorite scary movies, Halloween!

Main actors — Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode; Donald Pleasence as Dr. Sam Loomis, Will Sandin as Michael Myers age 6 and Tony Moran as Michael Myers age 23. The movie aired in 1978.

No matter how many times I watch Halloween I still find it scary. I love the theme song. If I were much younger and baby sitting on Halloween I might find the movie a little scary as well. I liked the part when some kids were passing the old Myers house and the Doctor threw a rock and spoke to the kids in a scarey voice to have fun with them. It was scary how it seemed nothing could kill Michael. Tony played the part of Michael exceptionally well despite the fact he never spoke a word in all the movies. I wouldn’t mind playing the major part in a movie where I never spoke a word.

Halloween H2O

Although there are several movies in the Halloween series, I really like the first Halloween movie and Halloween H2O 25 Years Later. The movies that aired between these two movies seemed to have lost some of the scariness or thrill that I liked in these two movies. I like the way Jamie stood up to Michael after all the years of mental anguish to defend her son when Michael threatened to harm him. I found it interesting, despite all the years of being haunted by her brother she showed some compassion for him right before killing him.

Thimbleberries QuiltThis quilt was a block of the month at a local quilt shop. Each month I received the fabric and pattern to make one block. There was a monthly get together at the shop to feature the current month’s block. They had a completed quilt on display so we could see what the top would look like.

Some blocks were easier than others. I like the colors and blocks in this quilt. My favorite block is called Bear Paw. On the quilt the Bear Paw block is the second block located on the top row.

I gave this quilt to my mom. When she passed away a few years ago I got the quilt back.

Red Hat QuiltI love the Red Hat Society. The group promotes socializing with other women. The women do a variety of activities such as going out to lunch, tea’s, movies, plays, tours or whatever the group is interesting in doing at the time

The ladies that are 50 and older wear purple outfits and red hats. If you are 49 and younger you wear lavender outfits and pink hats.

This quilt was one of the first quilt kits I bought that took me two years to get around to making. I love red and purple.

Coconut Chai

This black tea is bold yet it blends well with cardamon, ginger and cloves. There is a sweet hint of coconut. The ingredients include black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom pods, whole gloves, orange peels, nutmeg, black pepper, natural coconut flavor and natural cinnamon flavor.

This tea reminds me of a coconut cream pie. The coconut flavor is not over powering. The flavor and smells of coconut are warming. I was surprised when I first noticed black pepper as an ingredient. I cannot taste the pepper in the tea. I really enjoy this tea and would highly recommend this tea if you looking for something different.

Coconut Rum - A Tropical Green TeaThis tropical green tea has a sultry steep of the finest green tea blended with the fragrant fresh fruit of tart-sweet pineapple, aloha flavored with young coconut and island rum. A delicious, relaxing, sunny getaway cup anytime of the year.

Of all the green teas that I have tried so far this tea is the first one I can actually drink the whole cup. I am still acquiring a taste for green tea whether hot or cold. I have to be in the right mood to brew a cup of this tea.

I have found that I like black teas better.

Carmel Apple Tea

This tea contains Rooibos, Honeybush, Apple, Roosted Chicory Root, Milk Thistle, Cinnamon, Cloves, Chamomile, Licorice Root, Natural Carmel and Apple flavors.

I love this tea! Once the tea has steeped it is like having a cup of caramel apples without all the calories. Yum!

The combination of scents definitely reminds me of fall.

1930's Pinwheel QuiltA coworker had mentioned her little girl was moving from her crib into a big girl’s bed. They were needing to get some blankets for her bed.

I had some 1930′s fabrics that feature characters from nursery rhymes. So I made several pinwheel blocks and then framed the quilt with the fabrics used in the blocks. I used a fabric that has the ABC’s with children next to each letter for the backing.

I really love how this quilt turned out. Besides the little girl loving her new blanket so does her baby dolls as well. Thank goodness the babies love the quilt!

Back of 1930's QuiltHere is the back of the quilt showing the ABC’s.

Pink Star Wall HangingI wanted to learn how to paper piece using wax paper. So I signed up for a class at a local quilt shop. The class was very fun and informative. I really like the butterfly fabric I found for this wall hanging.

I have done some paper piecing since this class. It is fun but I find it is time consuming depending on the pattern you choose and how many small pieces are needed to make the block. There are some very beautiful and neat quilts that have have some if not all blocks are paper pieced.

I have a couple paper piecing quilt projects in various stages of completion. Once they are done I will feature them here as well.

Waiting For My Ship To Come InThe quilt guild I belong to periodically has quilt challenges. Sometimes they will provide a piece of fabric that needs to be used in a quilt along with other guidelines such as size or a certain block that needs to be included.

I decided to participate. In this challenge they provided some fabric, dimensions of the wall hanging and a Ohio Star block needed to be used as well. We picked our own theme and fabrics. Since I live near large lakes and oceans I decided to do something water related. One day while shopping I over heard someone say they were waiting for their ship to come in. So I decided to use that as the theme of my wall hanging since we are all waiting for our ship to come in.

I used the fabric provided for the ship sails, Sun Bonnet Sue’s dress and the pilings for the dock. I found some really neat water fabric, blue fabric with small stars for a night sky and yellow fabric for the Ohio Star block. I guess that could be the North star. I have some whale fabric so I cut out some of the whales and placed them in various places in the water. While at a bead shop I found an anchor charm so I attached it to the boat.

I had fun making the wall hanging. I didn’t win any prizes but that is okay. I’m still waiting for my ship to come in.

Quilt Therapy Wall HangingEvery so often at the fairgrounds or convention center there is a large sewing event that runs for several days. There are hundreds of booths selling everything you can imagine whether you are into sewing or quilting. They even have sewing machines, sergers, long arm quilting machines and various sizes of sewing tables. There are even booths selling some beautiful yarns and knitting supplies as well.

I enjoy going with some friends. We spend the better part of the day checking out the latest fabrics and sewing gadgets.

At one of the booths I found this small panel that says, “Therapy In Session.” The picture has a woman sitting at an antique sewing machine quilting a rather large quilt. There are books and various sewing supplies sitting on the floor around her including a cup of coffee. Right behind her chair is the family cat for moral support. There is a small border that has a star block and the letters RX. The panel was so cute I couldn’t pass it up.

I got home and got to thinking about how I was going to incorporate this panel into a quilt or wall hanging. I decided a wall hanging would be great so I can hang it up in my sewing room.

The kitty is really cute so I decided to feature the cat in the wall hanging. I arranged the black RX fabric so it separates the woman sewing from the words Therapy In Session. I found a really cute fabric with cats wearing bows, vests, curled up in a knitting basket or sewing machine for the border. In the corners of the wall hanging I used two different cat blocks.  I free motion quilted the wall hanging. For the loops to wrap around a rod to hang on the wallI I used some black fabric with pink squiggly lines. Instead of just tacking down the loops I found five cute cat buttons to sew on. I used muslin on the back.

I enjoyed creating this wall hanging from beginning to end. Sometimes I feel quilting is a therapy for me after a long hard day at work. Quilting is very relaxing and something I enjoy doing.
